Doctoral seminar
The SEPHI (Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy doctoral seminar) is an international seminar co-organised since 2015 by the Centre for Social Economy of HEC Liège and ESSEC Business School. Over the years, new partners have joined in: EM Lyon, IESEG Ecole de Management, and in 2025, SEPHI was co-organised with the Stanford PACS Junior Scholars Forum organising team. Each year, the SEPHI brings together around twenty young researchers working on the themes of social entrepreneurship, philanthropy, social innovation and the solidarity economy. The seminar aims to enhance the quality of doctoral and post-doctoral research by encouraging interdisciplinary exchanges, constructive feedback and connections between researchers. The originality of SEPHI lies in its interactive format, combining in-depth academic feedback, collective discussion and a friendly atmosphere. Since its inception, it has helped to create a truly international network for research into the social economy. The seminar alternates between the campuses of the different partners. It is fully in line with the mission of the Centre for Social Economy, which supports training, research and dissemination in the field of social transition. SEPHI is part of the curriculum of the joint thematic doctoral school in management between HEC Liège, ULB and UMons.
